Data Policy

1. Overview

We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the Faith Source Bible Reader application collects, uses, and safeguards your data. We do not sell or lease your personal information to third parties.

2. Information We Collect

We only collect the minimum amount of data required to provide a highly personalized Bible study experience:

  • Account Information: If you register for an optional account, we store your name, email address, and a secure salted hash of your password.
  • Personal Study Data: If you make verse highlights or add study notes, this data is saved. If you are not signed in, this data is stored locally on your device (in localStorage). Once signed in, it is synchronized and backed up securely to our database.
  • User Preferences: We store your reading and AI synthesis preferences (such as commentary complexity, language, and citation styles) to customize your generated study responses.

3. Artificial Intelligence & Processing

This application utilizes the Google Gemini API to analyze scripture passages, summarize historical commentary texts, and provide conversational studies. Here is how your data interacts with AI:

  • No personally identifiable information (such as your name, email address, or account ID) is ever sent to the Gemini API.
  • When you request a commentary summary, word study, or use the theological chat, the prompt consists purely of the scripture passage, the relevant historical commentary text from our database, and your preference parameters.

4. Data Retention & Deletion

You have full control over your personal data:

  • Local Data: If you use the app as a guest, highlights and notes are stored strictly on your device and can be cleared by deleting your browser cache.
  • Account Deletion: If you created an account, you can permanently delete it and all associated data at any time. This can be done directly within the app by clicking your Account icon in the top-right corner, selecting "Delete Account", and entering your password. Alternatively, you can contact us at the email listed below to request data deletion. For full step-by-step instructions and details of exactly what is deleted, see our Account & Data Deletion page.

5. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your credentials and personal study notes. All data transmission between your browser and our servers is secured using Transport Layer Security (HTTPS / SSL). User passwords are encrypted using strong Bcrypt hashing.
